The Kruse family had 2 kitchens however the dining room was not used for dining, we know that the Kruse family cooked all their meals and dined in the basement, a popular tradition in Europe and their ancestral Germany. Eating in the basement allowed the family to be warm during the winter months and cool during the summer months. The family prepared and stored preserves in the
basement as well. We now believe this upstairs kitchen had several other functions for the family.
