Now Online: West Chicago Service — Honoring Those Who Answered the Call

As we approach the America 250 Commemoration in 2026, the West Chicago City Museum is proud to share West Chicago Service, a new digital exhibit honoring the men and women from our community who served the nation from the Civil War through the present day.

This exhibit tells the story of West Chicago through the people who answered the call to service—on distant battlefields, at sea, in the air, and here at home. Across generations, local residents volunteered, enlisted, supported wartime efforts, and carried the impact of service back into civic life. Their stories reflect not only sacrifice and courage, but also the deep connections between military service, family, industry, immigration, and community life in West Chicago.

West Chicago Service highlights personal stories and photographs from major conflicts including the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and beyond. Visitors will encounter narratives of local veterans, homecoming parades, community memorials, and organizations like the American Legion that shaped how West Chicago honored and supported those who served. The exhibit also recognizes the vital role of the home front, from families and neighbors to civic groups and local industries that mobilized during times of war and peace.

Presented in both English and Spanish, this digital exhibit reflects the diverse histories that make up West Chicago and ensures these stories remain accessible to the entire community.

We invite you to explore West Chicago Service online, reflect on the individuals and families who shaped our city’s history, and learn more about how service—both military and civic—has long been woven into the fabric of West Chicago.
